Brazil's Prio in talks to buy Equinor's stake in Peregrino field, local media report

Published on:

Brazilian oil company Prio is in talks to buy the 60 per cent stake owned by Norway's Equinor in the Peregrino oil field, Brazilian newspaper Folha de S. Paulo reported on Thursday, citing sources.

Prio bought the 40 per cent stake it currently owns in the Peregrino field last year from China's Sinochem in a nearly $2 billion deal. Folha de S. Paulo did not say how much the Brazilian firm could pay Equinor for the remaining stake.

Prio and Equinor's press offices in Brazil did not immediately respond to requests for comment outside normal business hours.

Prio is looking to tie up the deal in order to operate Peregrino, an offshore field located east of Rio de Janeiro, Folha reported.

Equinor currently operates the field, its largest outside Norway.
