United Kingdom-based builder CTruk will deliver a composite wind farm service vessel based on its SWATH work boat design 'CWind Astute' delivered in late 2012.
Due for delivery in March 2014, the new 20-metre x 7.8-metre SWATH has been designed as an offshore wind support vessel (OWSV) for both Dungeness-based operator Technical Marine Supports and CWind itself under a boat share scheme.
The new SWATH will be powered by twin water jets, which are expected to increase manoeuvrability as well as providing for a maximum speed of 26 knots. The revised machinery arrangement will also optimise the vessel's longitudinal centre of gravity, reducing the need for ballast and making the entire vessel lighter.
The vessel's hull shape has been refined to increase displacement and load handling. An ability to reduce draught if required will allow the craft to access shallow harbours and beaches, and the craft will utilise CTruk's deck module design.
The new vessel will be fitted with a removable passenger pod that has been lengthened for increased passenger comfort and greater stowage. Removing the pod will open up a large deck area allowing for the transport of cargo or other equipment if required.
