Firm selected for construction of 22m composite bridge in western Iceland
Icelandic manufacturer Trefjar has been selected for the construction and installation of what it said will be the first composite bridge in Iceland.
The new composite bridge will span the Kaldá River near Snorrastadir in western Iceland. It will be 22 metres long and over five metres wide with one traffic lane and a pedestrian walkway.
The bridge will be manufactured in a single piece and can be lifted directly into place, thus reducing the time needed for construction, transport and installation.
Designed according to Eurocode standards, the new composite bridge will meet the highest requirements for strength and durability and will have a projected lifespan of 100 years.
Trefjar expects that the bridge will be completed by October 1, 2025. Its construction will be undertaken in collaboration with FiberCore Europe, a Rotterdam-based company specialising in pre-fabricated composite bridges and lock gates.
The bridge construction project was awarded to Trefjar by the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration.
