A fault on the subsea Fenno-Skan 2 interconnector between western Finland and southern Sweden has taken the link out of service as of Monday, the Finnish grid operator said.

Repairs were expected to take about a week, during which the interconnector's 800-megawatt capacity would be unavailable to the electricity market, Fingrid said in a statement.

The outage was due to a technical equipment failure, it added.

The outage will curtail power flows between Finland and Sweden at a time of tighter supply, with around half of the Nordic nuclear fleet situated in the two countries currently offline for maintenance.
