The US Army Corps of Engineers awarded Weeks Marine a $38.26 million contract on September 29 for beach renourishment in Monmouth County, New Jersey.

The firm-fixed-price contract lists Monmouth Beach as the work location and sets an estimated completion date of May 11, 2027.

Three bids were received following an online solicitation. The full $38,264,500 was obligated at award from civil construction funding for fiscal 2022. USACE’s New York office is the contracting activity.

The work is part of the Sea Bright-to-Manasquan beach-renourishment project. The solicitation specifies about 595,000 cubic yards (454,910 cubic metres) of beach fill in the base bid, with optional placements totalling 791,000 cubic yards (604,764 cubic metres).

The solicitation covers construction in Sea Bright and Monmouth Beach. USACE’s project fact sheet identifies Long Branch as an optional area for the next nourishment cycle.

Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. said in an August 28 announcement that, under the base contract and its options, USACE would distribute about 1.3 million cubic yards (994,000 cubic metres) of sand among the three towns.

The August announcement anticipated work starting in late fall and finishing by March 2027.

The later award notice gives the May completion date.

The solicitation includes a no-work period from March 1 through October 15 and an option for demobilisation and remobilisation to accommodate environmental windows.

The broader project extends along 21 miles (33.8 kilometres) of coast from Sea Bright to Manasquan Inlet and is intended to limit beach erosion while safeguarding coastal communities and infrastructure.

Its design specifies a berm 100 feet wide at +9.3 feet North American Vertical Datum, with nourishment recurring every six years for 50 years.

The previous nourishment contract was completed in March 2024, placing about two million cubic yards (1.53 million cubic metres) of sand using fiscal 2022 and 2023 funds.
