Polish builder selects Dutch firm to design new trailing suction hopper dredger

Dutch naval architecture firm Vuyk Engineering has been contracted by Polish shipyard Partner Stocznia for the design of a new trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) with a capacity of 3,000 cubic metres.

Vuyk Engineering said the TSHD is being developed as a compact dredging vessel with a balanced combination of dredging capability and operational flexibility.

The design will integrate the hopper arrangement, trailing suction system and propulsion configuration within a single vessel platform.

Vuyk Engineering developed the design in close collaboration with Partner Stocznia, which specialises in dredgers and specialised offshore ships.

The TSHD will be able to perform a range of dredging activities, including maintenance dredging and project support operations.

A key design feature will be the integration of dredging equipment within the hull and deck layout, enabling efficient execution of dredging operations within the available vessel dimensions.

Vuyk Engineering said the propulsion and power configuration will be aligned with the operational profile of a mid-size dredger, supporting both sailing performance and dredging efficiency.

The general arrangement will meanwhile provide space for operational systems and dredging equipment within a compact TSHD design.
