NSW Government allocates $21.5m for Stockton Beach repair
Australia's New South Wales Government has allocated $21.5 million in its 2025-26 budget to continue renourishment works at Stockton Beach.
The investment, to be spread over five years, is intended to fund the next phase of the Stockton Beach repair blueprint, the government said. This is in addition to a $6.3 million stage one project that was jointly funded by state, federal, and council governments. The government has previously delivered 130,000 cubic metres of sand to the beach.
The NSW Government noted that new funding will be used to finalise environmental approvals, create a monitoring plan, secure licences, and deliver the next round of beach nourishment.
Minister for the Environment, Penny Sharpe, described the initiative as the, "largest beach repair project ever undertaken in NSW".
Member for Newcastle, Tim Crakanthorp, confirmed the funding is now in budget and that the project is moving on to its next steps.
Minister for the Hunter, Yasmin Catley, stated the project is about protecting a location important to locals for, "lifestyle, culture, and the economy."
