Two Chinese yards have completed deliveries of an offshore installation ship and a large river and coastal dredger while US and Russian operators have placed orders for new dredgers.

Chinese-built large crane ship enters service

Chinese shipbuilder Zhenhua Heavy Industry has delivered a new large crane vessel to China Communications Construction Company (CCCC).

Haifeng 2001 has an LOA of 195 metres, a moulded beam of 46.9 metres, a moulded depth of 16 metres, and an offshore crane with a lifting capacity of 4,000 tonnes.

The vessel will be initially deployed on offshore wind farm construction projects. DP2 and eight-point mooring systems will ensure safe installation work even under Sea State Six conditions.

Haifeng 2001 is classed by China Classification Society (CCS).

New suction dredger to be deployed on Yangtze River

China's Yangtze River Waterway Bureau recently took delivery of a new large suction dredger from Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding.

Zhang Jing 10 ("Long Whale 10") will be used primarily for maintenance dredging of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River but may also be deployed for coastal dredging works.

The dredger has an LOA of 145 metres, a moulded beam of 29.2 metres, a draught of 9.6 metres, and a design speed of 15 knots. Dredging can be performed at depths of up to 50 metres.

Russian owner to expand inland dredging fleet

Russian shipowner State Transport Leasing Company has placed an order for six new self-propelled inland dredgers in a series to be built by United Shipbuilding Corporation.

The 55-metre vessels will each have a maximum endurance of 14 days and two containerised deck propulsion systems. The dredging equipment will include a rotary bucket and a 550mm pipe.

The first three dredgers will be delivered in 2025 while the remaining three vessels will be handed over the following year.

Florida shipyard to build hopper dredger for US Army Corps of Engineers

Florida-based the Eastern Shipbuilding Group (ESG) has been awarded a contract for the design and construction of a new hopper dredger for the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).

ESG was selected out of three bidders for the US$256.95 million firm-fixed-price contract. Construction will take place at ESG's Panama City facilities and is scheduled to be completed by August 2027.

The USACE's Philadelphia District is the contracting activity.
