Maintenance dredging scheduled for HMNB Devonport

Published on

Maintenance dredging operations are scheduled to begin on June 20 at various locations throughout His Majesty's Naval Base (HMNB) Devonport in Plymouth.

According to a notice issued by the King’s Harbour Master (KMH) Plymouth, the work is expected to last for approximately ten days.

The operations are in addition to previously announced dredging in the area and will involve a trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) and a plough dredger.

The vessels assigned to the project include the TSHD Shoalway, the plough vessel Obervargh, and the survey vessel Smit Neyland. According to the notice, all dredged material will be transported to the licensed disposal site at Plymouth Deep.

An advisory has been issued requesting that mariners pass the working vessels at a safe distance and with minimal wash. The notice regarding the operations is scheduled to remain in effect until June 30.

According to the Royal Navy, HMNB Devonport is home to several of its ships and units based in the UK's West Country, including the majority of its frigates.
