DEME tapped to build access channel linking France's Le Havre Port with Seine River

Published on:

The DEME Group, in partnership with French construction company Terelian, has been awarded a contract to enhance the Port of Le Havre's connectivity and operational capacity through the creation of a 1,800-metre access channel between the port and the Seine River.

As part of the Le Havre Port 2000 project, the Port of Le Havre is being upgraded to enable it to accommodate large vessels. This will then turn it into a key hub for international trade and logistics within the HAROPA port network, which also includes the ports of Rouen and Paris.

DEME will deploy several dredgers from its specialist fleet to perform the capital dredging works. Preparations are underway and project completion is scheduled for early 2028.

DEME said this project, also known as La Chatière, will create a new channel that will give river barges direct access to the Le Havre terminal in nearly all weather and tidal conditions.
