Darwin ship lift construction progresses with seawall work to begin
The Clough BMD Joint Venture has announced significant progress on the construction of the Darwin ship lift facility, a major project being delivered in partnership with the Northern Territory Government.
According to a statement released by the joint venture, dredging works for the new facility have now reached the 50 per cent mark.
In another key development, the first caisson template has been successfully lowered into place, which has allowed for the commencement of sheet pile driving operations to construct the facility's seawalls.
The joint venture is responsible for the procurement and construction phases of the project.
According to Clough BMD, the Darwin ship lift facility is designed to accommodate maintenance and servicing for a range of commercial and private vessels from the fishing, oil and gas, and other marine industries once it becomes operational.
The facility will also be used to service vessels operated by the Australian Defence Force and Australian Border Force.
