Rotterdam propeller repair

Rotterdam propeller repair
Published on:

The owners of a general cargo vessel consulted FN Diving regarding heavy vibrations of the vessel's propeller recently, and the FN team attended the vessel for an underwater inspection while offloading in Rotterdam.

The underwater inspection revealed two damaged propeller blades due to ice damage on a 5,200mm propeller.

In order to ensure a minimum delay for the vessel, the decision was made to crop the damage in a way to maintain the propeller's hydrodynamic requirements.

After consulting FN Diving's propeller repair partner, a repair plan was made allowing FN Diving to repair the customers propeller on site within the vessels schedule.

By trimming the vessel, the damaged tip surfaced and was cropped off dry, as well as the opposite blade tip in order to balance the propeller.

Within only seven hours all blades were cropped and hydro-dynamically reshaped, allowing the vessel to continue her voyage.
