Lloyd’s List celebrates 275 years
Published on

London, UK: Lloyd's List, a British maritime industry title, has marked its 275th anniversary with the launch of new online service.

Originally known as The List, the publication was founded in 1734 by coffee shop proprietor, Edward Lloyd, who provided the free shipping information service to his clients hoping they would in turn invest in insurance from Lloyd's coffee house.  After Lloyd's death in 1743, the coffee house remained a meeting place for merchants, ship-owners and underwriters and thus, the centre of insurance in London.  Edward Lloyd's information sheet became Lloyd's List and was in those early days simply a register of shipping movements.

Spanning four centuries, this highly respected daily newspaper, also available in continually updated electronic format, provides maritime news and analysis, including updates on ship management, operations, finance, shipbuilding, insurance,  law, and relevant news from global markets.
