Carbon emissions topped the concerns of Germanischer Lloyd's (GL) Baltic Committee, which brought together more than 20 shipowners, yards and maritime industry players from ten countries around the Baltic Sea.
The meeting involved both the Scandinavian and Polish committees in Copenhagen and included several shipowners and yards from countries farther around the Baltic Sea.
"The Baltic Sea in particular has some of the busiest shipping routes in the world. Around 2,000 ships are normally at sea at any time on the Baltic Sea. Cargo and container traffic is expected to triple and oil transportation is estimated to increase by 40 percent by 2017," said Torsten Schramm, President of Norgas Carriers Oslo.
