Pronto application to enhance efficiency at Port of Rotterdam

The Port of Rotterdam Authority has launched its digital application Pronto that it claims could cut waiting times for visiting ships by an average of 20 per cent and reduces carbon dioxide emissions.

The application enables more effective utilisation of capacity at the port terminals, and precise planning and co-ordination of a range of vessel services, including bunkering, servicing and maintenance and provisioning.

About 30,000 vessels call on Rotterdam every year.

Port Authority CFO Paul Smits said Pronto, which was tested over the past year, is based on international standards and offers shipping companies, agents, service providers and operators a joint platform for the exchange of port call-related information.

Mr Smits said Pronto will be made available to members of the port community in exchange for data or a fee.
