The recent opening of Stone Marine Services new facility at Walvis Bay in Namibia has improved the heavy engineering facilities in the area.
The new 5,000-square-metre workshop the company provides repair and refit services for propellers, thrusters, control systems, steering gear and rudders, and deck machinery. Spares procurement and logistics, NDT inspections, blade repairs and stern seals, also feature.
The workshop is well equipped with the largest centre large in Namibia comprising a Swift Crawford eleven-metre model, supported by five-metre and two-metre heavy duty centre lathes, a horizontal borer with an eight-tonne table load capacity, other facing and horizontal borers, a universal milling machine and various other items of equipment.
Movement of items around the workshop is facilitated by two overhead cranes, one a twelve-tonne SWL crane and one ten-tonne model.
