Cargotec's Siwertell ship unloader has recently won the International Bulk Journal's (IBJ) best ship loading/unloading system award for 2009.
There were four other systems short listed as finalists by IBJ, but the organisation judged the Siwertell dry bulk cargo flow system to be the most efficient, safe and innovative.
Siwertell ship unloader systems are carefully-designed with a specific focus on sustaining environmentally-friendly operation. They offer totally-enclosed bulk handling solutions and dust-free loading/unloading systems, for various materials, with some of the highest capacities on the market.
A Siwertell ship unloader is totally enclosed from the pick-up point in the hold, which is below the cargo surface, to the transfer point at the jetty conveyor. A cleaner and safer environment is thus achieved through elimination of spillage and dust. The Siwertell unloader programme is divided into four groups depending on the size of ship being unloaded/loaded, the rated unloading capacity, and the commodity being handled.
The main difference between these categories is the supporting steel structure carrying the conveyors on the arm system. The various steel structures can accommodate different ranges of conveyor sizes and can be made to different lengths to fit different ship sizes.
Siwertell unloading/loading systems have been delivered for decades and close to 300 units have been selected by terminal and bulk operators throughout the world.
