Humphree, a Swedish interceptor systems manufacturer has commissioned the first ACTIVE Ride Control System for the Australian market. This first system was installed on the passenger catamaran 'Fantome Cat'.
'Fantome Cat' was built for Sunferries by Aluminium Boats Australia and was designed by the Sydney naval architectural company, One2Three.
Stuart Pascoe, General Manager for Aluminium Boats said that he was pleased with the motion reductions and dynamic trim control performance achieved during the sea trials and delivery voyage with the Humphree system.
"Motion reductions in the level of 30 percent for pitch and 50 percent for roll, were achieved," Head of Humphree, Christer Widmark, said. "In addition, a speed increase from the Automatic Trim Optimisation System (ATOS) incorporated into the ACTIVE Ride Control, will benefit the operator as well as reduced fuel consumption and positive environmental reductions such as less wake when approaching the shore, and reduced carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions."
The Humphree ACTIVE Ride Control System consists of a two electrically actuated Humphree interceptor assemblies mounted to the transoms of each hull for a total of four interceptor assemblies. The complete system weighs less than 100kg.
