Cyprus-based shipowner Lemissoler Navigation has selected the fuel-efficient MAN Alpha Kappel propeller design for a new series of eight 58,500DWT bulk carriers planned for delivery during 2015 and 2016.

The 6.8-metre, slow-running, four-bladed Kappel fixed-pitch propellers will be tailored to the SDARI-designed bulk carriers and a drive train powered by an 8,050kW MAN B&W 5S60ME-C engine.

The new Lemissoler vessels will be characterised by trendsetting technology and an environmentally friendly operational profile that optimises fuel consumption and minimises emissions.

The eight vessels will be built by Chinese shipyard New Times Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of the New Century Shipbuilding Group.

The first four newbuildings will be classified by Germanischer Lloyd (GL), whilst the remaining vessels will be classified by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).

MAN Diesel and Turbo's propeller-production partner in China, Dalian Marine Propeller (DMPC), will manufacture the Kappel propellers for the Lemissoler bulkers. Each FPP will have a diameter of 6.8 metres and a finished, machined weight of approximately 17.8 tonnes.
