Japan Engine Corporation (J-ENG) has started development of its UEC60LSH type engine in order to expand the lineup of an existing engine series.

The UEC60LSH is the successor model of UEC60LSE type engine, which has seen widespread use. The UEC60LSH is optimised for various types of vessel such as very large gas carriers (VLGCs), Capesize bulk carriers, coal carriers, and vehicle carriers.

The UEC60LSH has the same features of ultra-low fuel consumption, compact dimensions and a wide rating that covers a range of engine speeds as the preceding UEC42LSH and UEC50LSH type engines.

J-ENG said it will also simultaneously proceed with the development of an ammonia-fuelled engine, the UEC60LSJA, which will be based on the UEC60LSH fuelled with heavy oil.
