Yanmar Power Technology (YPT), a subsidiary of Yanmar Holdings, has successfully commercialised a maritime hydrogen fuel cell system.

YPT plans to propose the installation of this system into various ships including passenger vessels, workboats, and cargo ships operating in coastal areas where hydrogen refueling is relatively accessible.

The fuel cell has a rated output of 300 kW and a displacement of 3,000 kilograms. A gas valve unit is built into the system housing for easy installation into ships while the fuel cell itself promises low levels of noise and vibration.

The system is equipped with a maritime hydrogen fuel cell module that has received an Approval in Principle (AIP) from ClassNK, though the system AIP is currently under application.
