UK-based BT Marine Propellers have completed the successful design, manufacture and installation of high-performance propellers and nozzles for Grandweld Shipyards Dubai.

The equipment was fitted to the new vessel 'Al Khattab' – a 30-metre multipurpose shallow-draught tug designed and built by Grandweld. The tug is designed to perform a wide variety of tasks from towing to anchor-handling, dredging to firefighting. 'Al Kattab' successfully completed sea trails exceeding the required contract conditions.

The vessel is fitted with two Caterpillar C32 engines each 969kW of power, with two 1,600-millimetre diameter BT Marine four-blade propellers, and BT Marine high-thrust nozzles. Sea trials carried out in Dubai produced a ship's speed in excess of 11.5 knots and an impressive bollard pull of over 30 tonnes, along with high fuel efficiency.

BT Marine designs and manufactures stern gear from 20mm to 300mm, Propellers for all applications from 250mm to 4000mm in Diameter, along with Steering and Fixed Nozzle systems. The company will be exhibiting at the Asia Pacific Maritime show in Singapore on March 14-16.
