Norwegian ship-owner Jo Tanker has reached regulatory requirements for changeover and blend fuel by installing Jowa Technology's Diesel Switch DS MKII.
After a first on-board test, Jo Tankers was convinced by the positive results achieved by the Diesel Switch. This lead to the installation of the DS MKII in nine more vessels, in addition to newbuild projects in South Korea. A significant factor for Jo Tankers was environmental concerns, and the investment in the Diesel Switch has resulted in a noticeable improvement.
The DS MKII provides a controlled, safe and reliable change-over from heavy fuel oil (HFO) to marine diesel oils (MDO) or gas oils (MGO) and vice versa, as well as a safe blend fuel operation whenever required. The system can be used for both main engines, as well as for the auxiliary engines. The DS MKII has unique software developed by Jowa, controlling a specially designed blend fuel valve, The overall architecture can be adapted to the available space on board, which sometimes can prove to be limited in case of retrofits.
According to Jowa, the Diesel Switch provides a reliable solution for the shipping industry to the issue of incorrectly performed changeover, which create both short-term and long-term problems for crew, engine, owner and environment. The switch is type-approved by Germanische Lloyd and enables vessels to meet the sulphur emissions levels in environmentally controlled areas.
