Heat transfer, centrifugal separation and fluid handling technologies firm Alfa Laval has won a repeat order for the company's "PureSOx" exhaust gas cleaning systems for Danish ferry firm DFDS, valued at approximately 19.5-million Euro (US$26.3 million).
Delivery is scheduled for mid-2014 with retrofit installation and commissioning of eight DFDS vessels – five roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) vessels and three roll-on/roll-off passenger (RoPax) vessels – to follow immediately thereafter.
According to the company, PureSOx consistently reduces sulphur content from heavy fuel oil exhaust gas to a level below 0.1%. Further, with a recent history of collaboration, DFDS is giving the PureSOx system its "tacit endorsement" with the placing of this latest order.
The eight-vessel order is also noteworthy due to the range of engine manufacturers (including MAN, GMT-Sulzer and Wärtsilä), the variety of engine types (both two- and four-stroke), and the total output power (18.9MW to 28.8MW) and exhaust gas mass flow (124,600 to 205,000kg/h).
Lastly, the addition of the Ro-Pax vessel type extends the PureSOx vessel capability beyond that of Ro-Ro vessels.
