Yamanashi-based electronics manufacturer Koden Electronics has added additional functions to its MDC-2900 and MDC-2900P series of marine radars in order to "secure safe navigation".

The constant false alarm rate (CFAR) function is a semi-automatic clutter suppression feature designed to provide a clearer target image. In comparison with conventional sea and rain anti–clutter, the target will not shrink. It ensures that only the sea-clutter and clouds will disappear, while the targets will always remain on the screen.

Koden has also unveiled a feature known as real-time smooth head-up. This function displays the exact direction and position of the target in real time. When the radar-installed vessel changes heading, the radar image will rotate smoothly in real time, unlike conventional rotation where the image redraws with each radar sweep.

As well as outfitting its MDC-2900 and MDC-2900P series of marine radars with additional features, Koden Electronics has added to its line-up of LCD radars for exclusive use on work boats. Known as the MDC-2200 and MDC-2500 series', the radars feature either twelve- or fifteen-inch colour LCD radar screens and are suitable for a range of work boats, fishing vessels, or government or commercial vessels.

High performance and multi-functional, the new series continue Koden's mission statement of advanced technology, leading detection capability, solid performance and safe and efficient navigation.

For owner-supplied XGA/UXGA (landscape) monitors, a "Black Box-type" variant of the MDC-2500 series is also available. It is known as the MDC-2500BB series.
