Alewijnse Marine has been awarded a contract by Hanson UK to design, deliver and commission the complete electrical and automation installation for two new trailing suction hopper dredgers (TSHD).

The vessels, which are being built at Barkmeijer Shipyards in Stroobos in the Netherlands, are scheduled for delivery in January 2019 and June 2019.

The TSHDs are designed to extract sand and gravel aggregates from the seabed, and each vessel has a single suction pipe and a hopper capacity of 3,000 cubic metres.

They are the first new aggregate dredgers commissioned by Hanson UK in more than 25 years and the first step towards replacing its fleet of eight hopper dredgers.

The contract includes the design, building, installation and commissioning of the switchboards, consoles and the dedicated alarm, monitoring and control systems.

It also includes the design, engineering, supply and commissioning of the dredging automation system, including visualisation, monitoring and process control.
