Digital Deep Sea has incorporated additional functionality to its CLA1000, class-A AIS transponder.

One of the features of a class-A is the ability to program the vessel's destination port, ETA and number of passengers on board.  This often time-consuming task is normally done through the CLA1000 keyboard and display, but to make things easier and quicker, Digital Deep Sea is now including free PC programming and AIS viewing software.

By just coupling up the transponder to a PC via the USB pilot plug (this is a standard connection on all class A transponders), users can use a notebook computer as a full-featured AIS display and quickly key text into the transponder through the PC keyboard. The software, called SmarterTrack Lite, has a colour-coded target display overlaid on to a background chart with range rings. Clicking on a target quickly establishes its identity, position, course and speed.

Secondly, Digital Deep Sea has now made it compatible with the HSC100 fluxgate compass from sister company Digital Yacht, so that this can provide rate of turn (ROT) information, which the transponder can include in its data transmission.
