For seven years, the gear oil for the trawl winches on the Ocean Prawns fleet of fishing trawlers has been kept clean in all weather conditions with temperatures ranging from minus 30 degrees Celsius to plus 30 degrees Celsius.

Shrimp fishing in Greenland and Canadian waters usually means working for four weeks at the time in the open sea and in all kinds of weather. Under such conditions, the most important thing for Per Svenningsen, Technical Manager at Ocean Prawns, is that trawl and engines work without downtime.

"Clean oil is crucial, and we have decided to use CJC Fine Filters on all hydraulic oil, gear oil, and the oil in the stern tube," said Mr Svenningsen

"We receive technical consultancy concerning our choice of filter, and the rest does not require advanced technical education. The system only requires that the filter inserts are changed at least once a year or when the differential pressure indicates that it is time for change."

The filters most exposed are placed on the deck of the large trawlers. They clean the oil of the deck gearbox for the trawl winch and must be able to operate in winter storms with temperatures of minus 20 to 30 degrees Celsius as well as on hot summer days with temperatures reaching plus 30 degrees Celsius.

CJC Fine Filters are produced in Denmark by CC Jensen. All CJC fine filters and filter separators are based on the off-line principle, meaning that the filter is equipped with its own pump which makes it independent of the pressure and flow in the main system. This enables a constant control of the pressure and flow over the filter element meaning that, opposite to in-line filters, fine filtration can be combined with high dirt holding capacity and water removal.

In addition, the off-line principle offers continuous filtration, which is independent of the conditions in the main system.
