Statoil awards turnkey contract for Johan Castberg turret mooring system

Statoil has awarded the Amsterdam-based SBM Offshore with a contract to proceed with the engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) work scope for a large-scale turret mooring system for its Johan Castberg development off Norway.

The Johan Castberg (formerly Skrugard) development is in the Barents Sea, about 100 kilometres north of the Snøhvit-field.

The turret is planned to be delivered in modules in early 2020.

It will be moored in about 370-metre water depth and will have a capacity to accommodate 21 risers.

The award follows the successful delivery of the front-end engineering and design (FEED) scope for the mooring system. It was delivered in close cooperation between Statoil and SBM Offshore teams.
