The United Nations Food and Agricultural Organisation (UN FAO) is supporting a three-year project in Tunisia to promote traditional methods of fishing.

The US$670 million project is being funded by the Spanish Agency of International Cooperation.

The project aims to boost the socio-economic circumstances of traditional fishermen in the Ghannouch and El Akarit regions of Tunisia.

The fishing sector contributes to eight percent of the value of agricultural production in Tunisia each year.
