From Baird Maritime
Having toured the coast of Cornwall four times over the past forty years, your reviewer has witnessed the dramatic changes experienced by its fishing industry over that time.
It is fortunate that the author has gone to the considerable trouble of producing this fine and very valuable book. Without people like him, this important history would fade away and the lessons to be learnt from it simply be wasted.
The charming ports and harbours of Cornwall, combined with the generally pleasant weather have made the county a tourist mecca. That is all very good for the economy and the local standard of living but it should not be allowed to destroy the very valuable fishing industry.
Fortunately, as the author clearly shows, there are sectors of the fishing industry that continue to flourish. It is still possible to have a good seafood meal there.
It is to be hoped that benign condition will continue. Either way, the author has performed a valuable service by recounting this important history so well.
