Somali pirates hijack Chinese fishing vessel

Somali pirates have captured a Chinese fishing vessels in the Seychelles.

The news comes as pirates issued a US$4 million ransom demand for the release of 36 crewmembers on a Spanish fishing vessel which was hijacked in October 2009.

The average ransom demand is between US$2 and US$6 million.

Meanwhile, pirates released a Taiwanese fishing boat on February 12. 'Win Far 161' was seized in April 2009 near the Seychelles. Two Indonesians and one Chinese national died during their hostage period. The others, 14 Filipinos, two Indonesians and three other Chinese men were reunited with their families.
