The US Coast Guard responded to a reported collision of two vessels approximately 30 kilometres southeast of Oahu, Hawaii, on Wednesday, August 7.

The commercial fishing vessel Helen and the Italian-flagged LPG carrier Pertusola (pictured), which was carrying 2,300 tonnes of propane, reportedly collided.

Sector Honolulu watchstanders received a report from Helen's captain via VHF radio at around 13:52 local time. USCGC Kittiwake and a response boat-medium from Station Honolulu later arrived to assess the scene as well as verify vessel damage and any potential pollution.

No injuries or pollution have been reported while the cause of the collision is under investigation.
