Russian yard launches new large freezer trawler
Yantar Baltic Shipbuilding Plant, a division of Russia's state-owned United Shipbuilding Corporation, has floated out a new large freezer trawler ordered by the V.I. Lenin Fishing Collective Farm based in Russia's Far East.
Viktor Gavrilov belongs to the Project 5670FT (formerly Project 5670WSD) series of freezer trawlers designed primarily for pelagic fishing. Design work is being undertaken by local naval architecture firm Forss Technology after the previous designer ceased work on the project in 2022, and this resulted in the vessel's original delivery to be delayed by more than two years.
The completed vessel will have a length of 121 metres, a beam of 21.6 metres, a depth of 12 metres, a displacement of 14,210 tonnes, freezer holds with a total capacity of 2,800 cubic metres, and accommodation for 148 crewmembers and factory personnel. A 10,440kW main engine will deliver a speed of 15 knots and an endurance of 60 days.
The factory facilities will include a surimi line and equipment for processing canned fish, fish oil, and packaged products.
Viktor Gavrilov will be operated primarily in the northwestern Pacific Ocean.
