VESSEL REVIEW | Scotia – Norway's FSV welcomes new stun and bleed boat into service
Norwegian aquaculture support company the FSV Group has taken delivery of a new stun and bleed vessel built by local shipyard Fitjar Mekaniske Verksted (FMV) to a design by Sirius Design and Integration.
Named Scotia, the vessel will be operated by FSV in support of Mowi’s salmon farming operations in Scotland.
Suitable for fish farm operations in shallow waters
The newbuild has a length of 49.97 metres (163.9 feet), a beam of 12 metres (39 feet), and a total cargo capacity of 500 cubic metres (18,000 cubic feet).
The vessel boasts a twin-screw configuration, featuring controllable-pitch shaftline propellers and reduction gears with electric motors for propulsion. Side tunnel thrusters provided by Brunvoll are fitted at the bow and the stern to ensure additional lateral manoeuvrability.
FSV had chosen the twin-screw configuration in combination with the two tunnel thrusters to meet the requirement for operation in shallow waters with strong currents.
A Scania generator meanwhile provides power for the various onboard systems while Baader supplied the onboard processing facilities. Refrigeration equipment from PTG FrioNordica is also available.
Ample crew amenities
The crew accommodation includes a mess, a galley, and a day room. NorSap crew seats are fitted in the wheelhouse.
The deck equipment includes cranes provided by HS.Marine.
Construction of Scotia’s hull took place at Finomar in Poland while final outfitting was undertaken at FMV’s facilities in Norway.
