Scale Aquaculture acquires Norwegian net-cleaning robotics firm Probotic
Scale Aquaculture has acquired Narvik-based Probotic, a startup that develops autonomous systems for inspecting and cleaning fish farming nets at sea.
Founded in 2019, Probotic launched its first model, Probot 1.0, in 2024. According to the company, the system is designed to improve fish welfare and operational efficiency by enabling continuous net cleaning and early detection of wear and damage, which can help prevent fish escapes.
Scale Aquaculture stated that the acquisition will expand its technology offering and strengthen its presence in Northern Norway. The company said Probotic’s solution complements its existing equipment portfolio, particularly in integrating net and cleaner design to improve fish farming conditions and sustainability.
Scale Aquaculture noted that Probotic’s leadership, including CEO Michelle Opshaug and founder Mikkel Pedersen, would remain with the company following the acquisition. It added that the technology will be further supported by its service network to improve system uptime and operational reliability.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
