A 15-metre hybrid fish farm workboat

Norwegian fish farm company orders new hybrid workboat

Published on

Norwegian salmon farm operator Nova Sea has placed an order for a new hybrid workboat to be built by a partnership that includes local shipbuilder Folla Maritime Service.

The hybrid workboat will be the sixth vessel in a series to be ordered by Nova Sea from the same builders. The acquisition is part of the owner's fleet renewal program, which seeks to introduce vessels that would help reduce the environmental impact of its salmon farming operations.

The vessel will measure 15 by eight metres and its propulsion arrangement will consist of two electric motors, a 444kWh battery pack, and two electric thrusters. The onboard generator will also assist with propulsion and battery charging when necessary, and the vessel itself will be equipped to perform a wide range of fish farm support operations.

Other features will include an open aft deck, a knuckle boom crane, and a wheelhouse offering all-round visibility.

The workboat will utilise a design developed by Norwegian naval architecture firm Møre Maritime.
