Normex signs supply contract for South Korean land-based salmon farm

Norwegian technology company Normex has signed a supply contract with Mirae Aquafarm for its new land-based salmon farming facility in Pohang, South Korea. The company described the agreement as an important breakthrough into the Asian market and its first major venture in the region.

The contract includes the delivery and installation of a water treatment system throughout the facility. The scope of the supply also includes solutions for wastewater, intake water, and pre-harvest purification. Once completed, the farm will have a production capacity of 10,000 tons of salmon annually, Normex said.

The company’s water treatment system is developed for recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) facilities that removes microparticles and reduces microbiological load. Stig Ove Johansen, CEO of Normex, noted that the system can be remotely monitored, which provides a strong platform for further international growth.

Normex stated the market entry into South Korea was a direct result of its participation in Innovation Norway’s global growth program. The company has also entered a partnership with the Korean company Aquapro, which will serve as its local representative and technical support partner.
