Norcod granted permission for new cod farm in Norway

Norwegian cod farmer Norcod announced it has been granted permission to establish a new production location in Meløy municipality with a maximum allowed biomass (MAB) of 3,599 tonnes.

The new site, named Snyen, is the company's second location in Meløy and will form a production cluster with its existing Frosvika site. The combined MAB for the cluster will be 7,198 tonnes.

The company expects to establish and stock the new Snyen site during 2026.

"We are pleased to have received this approval and value the good cooperation with Meløy municipality and Nordland County," Christian Riber, Norcod's Chief Executive Officer said.

He described the new site as well suited for cod farming due to good water depth, temperature, and currents. He added that the new site is a key step in the company's plan to achieve an annual harvest of 25,000 tonnes by 2030.

Norcod said its core business is focused on commercial sea farming of cod. Its existing farms are located in Mid-Norway and along the Helgeland coast.
