Mowi has taken delivery of a new feed barge that will support its salmon harvesting activities in the Faroe Islands. The barge was built by GroAqua and has a silo capacity of 1,000 tonnes.

Fitted with 16 feeding lines, the 39-by-13-metre barge will help optimise feeding by having one feeding line per cage feeding the whole farming site simultaneously. The barge is set up for remote operation and can operate even in significant wave heights of 5.5 metres.

The feed barge will run on power from shore. The equipment onboard is designed to reduce noise pollution to leave the nearby surroundings as undisturbed as possible. The crew will also have access to amenities such as a small mess and a galley, allowing personnel to stay on board in relative comfort for extended periods.

The feed barge was built in Poland by GroAqua's barge building division. Design and construction was done with the cooperation of Mowi over a period of 11 months.
