China Communications Construction names newest deep-sea aquaculture platform
China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) formally named a new deep-sea aquaculture platform in a ceremony on Tuesday, March 25.
Built by Jiangmen Hangtong Shipbuilding, Wanqu Lingding will be operated by CCCC Fourth Navigation Bureau. In addition to being used for fish harvesting, the platform may also be employed for fisheries tourism.
The completed platform will have an LOA of 155.8 metres, a beam of 44 metres, a depth of 24.25 metres, a design draught of 16 metres, a capacity of 80,000 cubic metres, and an expected service life of 35 years.
The structure will be equipped with 12 separate harvesting tanks. CCCC said these will have a total annual production capacity of 3,000 to 5,000 tonnes.
The hull will be of a hybrid design combining the bow and stern of a traditional monohull seagoing vessel and column-style steel frames for the other portions. The platform itself will be capable of navigating under its own power thanks to an electric propulsion setup that will deliver a range of 2,000 nautical miles.
Other key features will include equipment for recycling seawater without generating emissions.
Wanqu Lingding is scheduled for delivery in June.
