The unified command established in the aftermath of the January 14 collision between the Odfjell-owned chemical tanker Bow Fortune and the fishing boat Pappy’s Pride has suspended the search for two crewmen who went missing when the latter vessel capsized and sank near the Galveston Jetties in Galveston, Texas.

Responders used multiple government and Good Samaritan vessels and aircraft to scour an area of more than 126 square kilometres.

However, no trace of the two missing fishermen had yet been found by the time US Coast Guard officials ordered the suspension on Thursday, January 16.

The coast guard and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are still investigating the cause of the incident, which had also claimed the life of a third crewmember on Pappy’s Pride. Only one of the four crewmen on the fishing boat survived the collision.
