Vard secures Framherji stern trawler contract

Vard has been awarded a contract for the design and construction of a new stern trawler for Akraberg, a subsidiary of Framherji in the Faroe Islands.

The contract value is in excess of NOK 500 million (US$47.96 million).

The vessel will be arranged for triple trawling and will have a length of 84 metres and a beam of 16.7 metres. The cargo capacity for frozen products will be approximately 2,000 cubic metres divided over two decks, in addition to ensilage capacity of approximately 550 cubic metres.

Accommodation will be for 25 people in single cabins on board.

The trawler will be equipped with a hybrid propulsion system combining both diesel-mechanical and diesel-electric propulsion, including batteries.

Delivery is scheduled for 2022.
