Vard Aukra has delivered a new freezer trawler to Icelandic fishing company Útgerðarfélag Akureyringa.

The vessel, which has been named Harðbakur, has an LOA of 28.9 metres, a beam of 12 metres, accommodations for 13 people, and a 240-cubic-metre fishroom. Power is provided by two Yanmar 6EY17W 294kW main engines.

The trawler is expected to begin fishing in early 2020 following the installation of additional catch handling equipment.

Harðbakur is one of a series of seven trawlers that Vard is building for a consortium of four Icelandic fishing companies. Bergur-Huginn, Gjögur, and Skinney-Thinganes have each ordered two units from the same series.
