Astilleros Gondan has won an order for an advanced stern trawler from Prestfjord, one of Norway’s biggest fishing and aquaculture companies. Gondan also built a previous vessel for the company, the freezing stern trawler Sunderøy.
This new vessel, designed by Rolls Royce Marine, which also supplied the main equipment – will have a length of 77.3 metres and a beam of 17 metres. Built in steel with an aluminium superstructure, the stern trawler will operate in Arctic areas, in the Barents Sea and Svalbard waters.
With an accommodation for 29 people, the freezing trawler will be fishing for cod and prawns. For processing, it will feature automated fish processing equipment, including a meal plant, and a total hold capacity of 2,250m3. The vessel will be classified by DNV and will be Ice-class certified.
