Norway’s Selvåg Senior orders LNG-powered seiner/trawler from Turkish builder

Norwegian fishing company Selvåg Senior has placed an order for a new seiner/trawler from Turkey’s Cemre Shipyard.

The DNV GL-classed, Skipsteknisk-designed vessel will have a length of 79.5 metres, LNG propulsion, and a 1MWh battery pack to augment the main engine during voyages and to supply power to the onboard systems while in port. The battery pack will also feature shore charging capability.

The vessel will be equipped for pelagic trawling and purse seining with pumping both over the side and the aft. All winches and fish pumps will be electrically-driven and return effects will go to the battery bank.

The cargo tanks for storing fish will have a total capacity of 2,500 cubic metres and will be fitted with cooling systems developed in collaboration with Norway’s Foundation for Industrial and Technical Research (Stiftelsen for industriell og teknisk forskning; SINTEF).

Design work on the vessel will be provided by Skipsteknisk.
