Antarctic Fishing Company in Killybegs, County Donegal, recently took delivery of a new pelagic trawler from Danish builder Karstensens Skibsværft.

The DNV-classed, ice-capable Antarctic was delivered to its new owners following completion at Karstensens’ facilities in Gdynia Poland. It is the fifth vessel to bear the name in the company fleet owned by Teresa and Eamon McHugh.

The 63-metre newbuild was acquired for around €20 million (US$23.7 million).

Antarctic has a steel hull, an aluminium superstructure, a MAN main engine, accommodations for up to nine crewmembers, and a fish hold with eight RSW tanks. There is also deck space for one MOB boat.
