Fincantieri to help modernise Italy’s fishing fleet

Fincantieri and the Italian National Association of Fishing Enterprises (Federazione Nazionale delle Imprese di Pesca; Federpesca) have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to promote the renewal of Italy’s fleet of over 12,000 fishing vessels.

The project, which will be led by Fincantieri and will also include other local partners, seeks to incorporate measures aimed at decarbonisation and digitalisation on the country’s existing fishing vessels, many of which are over 30 years old.

Federpesca, meanwhile, will help lay out technical specifications for the vessels as well as identify new potential markets within the Mediterranean region.
