Russian fisheries research vessel to conduct stock assessments off Morocco
A team of Russian and Moroccan scientists are currently embarked on a research vessel operated by the Russian Federal Agency for Fishery as part of an expedition to assess fish stocks off Morocco’s Atlantic coast.
The expedition, which will utilise the research vessel Atlantiro, seeks to determine the current status of small pelagic fish species in the region and how various environmental conditions are affecting their numbers. This will involve a total of 143 control trawl sweeps.
The research expedition is being conducted under a frame agreement on fisheries signed by the Russian and Moroccan governments in 2020. It is scheduled to conclude in December 2021.
