Fisheries New Zealand has taken delivery of a new patrol vessel built by local company Osprey Boats.

The 6.5-metre-long Matai replaces the aging vessel Kahutara, which is repurposed by the Customary Fisheries Forum to support Tangata Kaitiaki fisheries management efforts.

Tyrone Robinson, NZ Ministry of Primary Industries regional Fisheries Compliance Manager, said the chosen name for the new vessel means “to observe, investigate and examine.” It will be utilised from Mahia to Palliser Bay in the Wairarapa.
